For over 60 years, Block Engineering has been a leader in the field of chemical detection and analysis. Our laser-based spectrometers currently protect people and facilities worldwide from chemical threats. We also supply mid-infrared quantum cascade lasers to researchers and OEMs. Block's LaserWarn is an open-path chemical detection system that identifies chemical threats in seconds.

Eye-safe lasers allow for early warning of Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs), Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) and other security and safety threats.
Services
Our Vision is to be a full-suite provider of leading edge spectrometers for the detection of gases and trace chemicals across a wide variety of markets. Our Mission is to provide integrated early warning capabilities that save lives, aid in the optimization and environmental safety of industrial processes and manufacturing, and support the academic and research laboratory communities.
Block Engineering's chemical detection and gas analysis instruments are used in a wide variety of applications across the security and safety, life sciences, and other industries. Our open-path gas detection systems monitor sites for chemical threats from hundreds of meters away. Our quantum cascade lasers are used by university researchers and are integrated into biomedical imaging systems.
Block Engineering sells widely tunable mid-infrared quantum cascade lasers to universities, research laboratories, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Our lasers are used in spectroscopy, chemical detection, and other research applications (click for a partial list of research papers). Our QCL modules also serve as the laser engines for Atomic Force Microscopy, Photoacoustic Spectroscopy, and other imaging and life science equipment.
Block's chemical detection systems are based on widely tunable Quantum Cascade Lasers. Our instruments utilize a high brightness QCL source, which results in high spectral power density and radiance. Block's spectrometers are able to quickly measure gases, liquids, and surface materials with high sensitivity and can rapidly analyze highly absorbing or diffusive materials.
