The Society of Flight Test Engineers is a fraternity of engineers, whose principal professional interest is the flight testing of aerospace vehicles. The objective of the Society is the advancement of flight test engineering throughout the aerospace industry by delivering technical and fraternal communication among individuals, both residential and international, in the allied engineering fields of test operations, analysis, instrumentation and data systems.

B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and M.S. in Engineering Management, both from Wichita State University. G500/600 Initial Type Certification, EFVS to Land (all models in production), G650&G500 Category II ILS (Gulfstream ). Licensed private pilot (SEL) since 1998 and a registered professional engineer (KS) since 2001.
This is an individual award that honors outstanding achievement in the field of Flight Test Engineering. The Kelly Johnson Award was first awarded in 1973 and is the society's oldest running award. Kelly Johnson established the fabled Lockheed Skunk Works that was responsible for many designs and flight testing of aircraft such as the P-80, U-2, SR-71, F104, F-117, YF-22, and X-35. The J.S. McDonnell award was established in 2016 and is a group award that honors outstanding achievement in the field of Flight Test Engineering.
There are currently 19 local SFTE chapters in operation around the world. Chapters coordinate events in their local area. Your chapter membership is recorded as part of your member profile, which will place you on the contact list for any events and correspondence from that chapter.
The abstract submission window is now closed and we have a RECORD number of paper abstracts received. The abstract review committee's job will not be easy! We are looking forward to an exceptional compilation of flight test papers and an unforgettable Symposium this October! Stay tuned for more information!
Primary: Promote the flight test profession by providing financial assistance to those students pursuing education programs that will lead them to a flight test related career. Secondary: Provide a benefit to our membership by providing financial assistance to their dependents that are pursuing undergraduate college degrees.
