Prairiefire Consulting Concept to production quality specialists. Prairiefire helps design products that perform correctly and consistently in the real world, despite environmental fluctuations or variation during manufacturing. We do this through Sensitivity-Based Design and Analysis, finding and treating the causes of performance variation rather than just the symptoms.

We also offer training in the tools and techniques we use most often to bring the value back to engineering. We bring this expertise - usually only found in the largest of manufacturing companies - to all engineers, designers, and manufacturers.
Services
Create quality in your mechanical system designs, reduce prototyping cost and manufacturing delays. We improve product an process quality by reducing its sensitivity to real-world variation, preventing and solving problems throughout the design and manufacturing cycle. We focus on the effects of geometry and multi-physics variations and help you create designs tht are insensitive to variation. Our contributions are unique, so case studies and an explanation of Sensitivity-Based Design may help clarify what we do and how we do it.
Prairiefire was founded by engineers to provide consulting, application, and education services. We have over 20 years of experience applying Sensitivity-Based Design. The Sensitivity-Based Design process focuses on product and process quality, ensuring functional requirements and supplier capabilities are captured at every level, from concept through manufacturing.
It's common to try controlling a system by tightening tolerances - simple to say, but expensive to apply. And it doesn't work especially well when it's unclear how much tightening tolerances will improve quality. Sensitivity-Based Design focuses on understanding the multiple relations between input variations and quality outputs of the system.
Fix in-production systems with quality issues -- we find and solve root causes like no one else can. We accurately and quantitatively predict fit-up yields, sigma values, and other quantitative measurements of quality, starting with as little as concept sketches or as much as complete prints and production data.
Quality means more to your customers than just successful assembly, so we look beyond fit-up to analyze the consistent performance of your product. We use Sensitivity-Based Design to predict not only product performance, but how that performance will change with manufacturing, wear, and environmental variation.
