Narragansett Engineering NEI was started by Kamal Hingorany, PE, PLS, and Bob Mastin, a local entrepreneur in Middletown, RI in 1985. The firm's name was homage to the indigenous Native American tribes, the Narragansett. The second generation has now taken the reigns, with Neal Hingorany, MS, PLS officially becoming the firm's president in 2018. Throughout the planning, design, and construction process, NEI will navigate you through local and state regulatory agencies, explore green, low impact and environmentally conscious solutions, and most importantly provide efficient and practical design solutions.

NEI focuses primarily on residential and commercial civil engineering (though we do work on industrial space). Accessory infrastructure parking, paving types, stormwater-drainage, wastewater, grading, landscaping. The art and science of land surveying has progresses by leaps and bounds in the past 25 years.
Typically, I'm the point person for new clients, I handle proposals, project feasibility and coordination. Just the same, I do get heavily involved in the day to day of most design projects. Owner and founder, with over 40 years experience, I provide guidance to the crew. Still not afraid to get my hands dirty - I perform most of the soil evaluations in the field.
Take a look at our blog articles which provide in-depth information on topics such as environmental permitting, foundation construction, surveying, septic systems, flood zones, basements, UAVs and more. Check out these answers to common questions if you're in the market for a land survey and want to learn more about what they are, when they're required, how much it may cost, etc.
In many states, land surveys are compulsory with the purchase of real estate, it's often a good idea. Real estate purchases are most often the largest single purchase people make, and a survey can be a validation of the asset. While the risk that something is "wrong" is relatively low, the consequences for issues are very high, so often a survey can be seen as risk mitigation.
