Florida Engineers Management

With almost 44,000 active licensed engineers in the state, the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE) is committed to protecting the interest of public health and safety by properly regulating the practice of engineering. The Florida Board of Professional Engineers is established under Chapter 471, Florida Statutes, Engineering, and is composed of 11 members, nine of whom are licensed Professional Engineers representing multiple disciplines and two laypersons who are not and never have been engineers or members of any closely related profession or occupation.

To become a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida, you must meet criteria in three areas. Bachelor of Science degree in engineering technology from an ETAC/ABET-accredited program; or. Foreign degree or degree from non-EAC/ABET- or non-ETAC/ABET-accredited program that has been evaluated for equivalency.

After you have earned a Board-approved bachelor's degree and passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, you are eligible to apply for Engineer Intern (EI) certification in Florida. Complete the Application for Engineer Intern Certification and submit it with the $100 fee to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.

Second, your qualifying engineer must connect the firm's registry to the engineer's license. An engineering firm may not offer engineering services in Florida until the second part of the process is complete, i.e. it is qualified by a Professional Engineer licensed in Florida.
