3. Air ingress has an adverse effect on draft, and therefore burner efficiency, and can cause flame impingement on the heater tubes. Many heaters commonly utilize insulation packing, spring seals, metal covers, or simple pad wraps, as a means to keep the heat inside, but they are inefficient and often completely ineffective at sealing off the flow of air around and through them.
Flextech Engineering, Inc. designs and supplies fabric, or non-metallic, expansion joints for a wide variety of applications. Fabric expansion joints need to be designed with many factors considered in order to ensure a long life. Each expansion joint needs to be made with these factors in consideration.
A full expansion joint assembly consists of the fabric expansion joint and the metal frames (and an insulation pillow as required). There are many frame styles, with a large amount of variations. Below we have shown some of the more common arrangements. These frames can be welded or bolted in place.
The Insultex 50/1406 is for applications up to 1000°F. It is comprised of a layer of Teflex which is bonded to a layer of nonwoven insulation mat. This unique bonding provides a strong and resilient material, which can reach very high temperatures.
