Elwood S. Tower Consulting Engineers was founded in 1931 by Elwood S. Tower, Sr. Born and raised in Smith's Mills, New York, Elwood moved to Pittsburgh after graduation with the hopes of becoming an architect. He enrolled at Carnegie Tech in 1911, and was a student for three years until his funds were depleted. During this time, he worked as an apprentice in an architectural firm. After leaving Carnegie Tech, he enlisted in the Army and served in the Army Signal Corps during World War I until his discharge.
Services
Tower Engineering has been providing innovative mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection solutions and unparalleled client service since 1931. Primary markets of the firm include educational, health care, environments for the aging, and commercial renovations and new construction. Tower Engineering's highly-trained staff of project managers, designers, and technical support personnel is capable of providing consulting services for every type of project - from a small, single-family residence to a high tech research facility incorporating redundant mechanical and electrical systems, DDC energy management and thermal storage.
In building design, life safety and occupant comfort are of primary concern. The impact of proper electrical design on these two criteria is significant from proper lighting for visual comfort and safety, to safe and reliable power distribution, to robust communications and technology systems. All are necessary for occupant comfort and safety.
Technology systems form an important element within any type of facility. Communication via data transfer, voice, audio or video involves complex integration and interconnection of systems to ensure users can work effectively and efficiently. Tower Engineering provides flexible and complete solutions to meet current and future technology needs based on discussion and review with users and operations personnel of the facility.
Commissioning in its simplest form is a test drive of systems before you pay contractors in full and take occupancy. Just like you test drive a vehicle before you purchase it, performing a test drive of critical systems in a new building is important to ensure a smooth transition from the completion of construction to the full use of your new facility.
