Born out of a Burbank warehouse in 1985, AES today employs a staff of 25 dedicated individuals, including associate and support staff. AES provides soils engineering, engineering geologic and environmental services, like a soils engineering report, for hundreds of construction projects every year across Southern California.
Caro Minas founded AES in 1985 after working with a number of major national and international engineering firms for 12 years. He received his BS ('75) and MS ('76) degrees in civil and geotechnical engineering, respectively, from California State University, Los Angeles. In addition to his extensive experience in California and Nevada, he has conducted major investigations for nuclear power plants, harbors, industrial complexes, and gas distribution projects in the Persian Gulf area.Today he is one of the foremost geotechnical engineers in the LA area and oversees all engineering operations at AES.
Applied Earth Sciences is a geotechnical and environmental engineering consulting firm with a broad project and client base in southern California. AES plans to expand into areas outside of our current service area with a broader focus on environmental consulting, specifically targeting large design-build companies as well as government agency clients.
Foundation engineering has long been the forte of AES. This office has been responsible for engineering the foundations for well over 10,000 buildings in Southern California and providing, in each case, an accurate and reliable soils engineering report. The result of soil and rock tests and engineering analyses and calculations, the "soil report" gives recommendations to structural engineers and contractors about building design and construction. A foundation engineer can dispense the best recommendations as determined by the soil and rock types that underlay a built-structure.

Their engineers and geologists are extremely rude and the work is subpar at best. Be ready for a lot of back and forth with their team while they are trying to squeeze more money from you. They don't treat you as a valued customer and more like a child with a very condescending undertone. If you are a residential customer avoid them at all costs as they clearly don't care about smaller projects. They will even tell you as much after you have paid the initial fees.

Terrible company. Will take advantage of home owners and prices are astronomical. Once they have you locked in, they gouge you for every penny.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. They show up to your property, destroy it, and then leave. No consideration for anyone else. Just get their work done is all that matters. Rude, condescending attitudes abound! If I could give negative stars I would, but since 1 is the lowest then I will have to settle for that.

One of the best Soil engineers in town. I have been working with them for more than 2 years as a real estate developer. Great service and very professional.

The geologist working for this company is a brash, mean, condescending individual who doesn't know how to treat people. I called with an inquiry and was talked down to as though I was ignorant. I called a second time, after getting disconnected, and the geologist basically told me to go F*** myself and HUNG UP on me. The customer. I got my soils report from a different engineer and he did beautiful work.

As part of my research, I pulled a soils report from public record does by Applied Earth. The geologist I hired was stunned by the low quality of the work they do, saying that it wasn't very thorough. To avoid any question that my review is being written by the geologist I hired, I will not disclose the name of the wonderful individual who walked me through the survey of my land. I will just say, DO NOT do business with these people if you want a courteous person who does quality work. Your home is an investment, always do your due diligence.
